Question 1

Is Helping Hands Closet free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Helping Hands Closet is completely free of charge — there is no cost ever to guests. To ensure that every household that needs assistance can receive it, each household shops with a set allowance. The allowance is generous, and it is always free.

Question 2

Do guests need an appointment or referral?

Accepted Answer

No. We gladly receive referrals from partner agencies, but a referral is never required. And while we may add an appointment day in the future, no appointment is necessary — come as you are during guest hours (Tuesdays 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM, Saturdays 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM) and you will be welcomed as an honored guest.

Question 3

Will I receive a tax receipt for my donation?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Helping Hands Closet is a ministry of Love First Christian Center, and donations of goods are generally tax-deductible. Just ask for a donation receipt when you drop off and we will gladly provide one for your records.

Question 4

Can I donate hygiene products?

Accepted Answer

Yes, as long as they are new, unopened, and unexpired. Full-size products are preferred, but travel size is welcome too. We also accept new, unopened baby care and feminine care items.

Question 5

What happens to donations that aren't a fit for the boutique?

Accepted Answer

Nothing will be thrown out. All donated clothing items will be inspected — anything not for us will be given to the Missions Ministry or placed in our textile recycling bin to be used for other purposes. Every stitching has purpose.

Question 6

Where do I drop off donations before the boutique opens?

Accepted Answer

For now, all donations are received directly by Millie and Cedric Brown. Please do not drop items off at the church or at the facility at this time — reach out and we will gladly arrange a handoff with you.

Question 7

Can my church, business, or group partner with Helping Hands?

Accepted Answer

We would love that. Our Community Catalysts team connects with local churches, businesses, and organizations who want to support the mission.

Question 8

Do I have to commit to serve just because I want more information?

Accepted Answer

No. Learning more does not obligate you to serve.

Question 9

What if I want to help but I'm not sure where I fit?

Accepted Answer

That's okay. We can help you learn more about the different service areas and where your gifts may fit best.
